All About Big Brother 9 (Big Brother: 'Til Death Do You Part)

Big Brother 9 (also known as Big Brother: 'Til Death Do You Part) is the ninth edition of the American reality television series Big Brother, began airing on the CBS television network on February 12, 2008. This is the first season of Big Brother to air during an official television season. Julie Chen returns as host, and Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan are the executive producers. The show is produced by Endemol USA and

Alison Grodner Productions.

The season was announced on November 15, 2007 with open casting calls being held from November 17, 2007 to December 8, 2007. The finalists for the season were chosen on December 27, 2007. Showtime and CBS announced that the companion show Big Brother: After Dark would return this year on Showtime 2. Big Brother is having its first winter season due to the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike, which ended on February 12, 2008, the day of the premiere.

Pre-season

Following the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike, the trade magazine Variety reported that CBS, in response, was considering airing a winter edition of Big Brother, and that the network was beginning to cast auditions.Several sites speculated that the winter edition could have been an American version of Celebrity Big Brother but this was untrue as CBS released a statement that the next edition of Big Brother would be a regular season following the format of past editions.

Broadcasts

CBS announced on December 3, 2007 that Big Brother 9 would premiere Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 9/8c. Subsequent episodes would begin airing on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 8/7c and Sunday, February 17, 2008.

On January 8, 2008 Showtime announced it was teaming up again with CBS to air Big Brother: After Dark. It would return to Showtime 2 for Big Brother 9. Big Brother: After Dark would begin airing on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 12 AM and end at 3 AM and would air seven nights a week.

The series will also be shown in the United Kingdom on E4 airing two one-hour episodes on Thursday nights and one one-hour episode on Tuesday nights, the first will be shown on February 14.

Highlights
Week 1 Events On Day 1 the sixteen HouseGuests entered the house and would be paired with their soulmate chosen for them by Big Brother based on forms filled out by the HouseGuests during their audition process.Jen and Ryan are a real-life couple outside the House and Jacob and Sharon are an ex-couple. The soulmates were Adam and Sheila, Alex and Amanda, Allison and Ryan, Chelsia and James, Jacob and Sharon, Jen and Parker, Joshuah and Neil, and Matt and Natalie.
Competitions The first Power Couple competition "Falling for You". Each couple is hoisted over a bed and must grab onto each other whilst airborne. If they let go, they are eliminated. Jen & Parker won the competition and $10,000 and had to evict a couple in two hours' time.
Entrances Adam, Alex, Allison, Amanda, Chelsia, Jacob, James, Jen, Joshuah, Matt, Natalie, Neil, Parker, Ryan, Sharon and Sheila entered on Day 1. Sharon re-entered the House as Neil's replacement on Day 6.
Exits Jacob and Sharon were evicted on Day 3. Neil left the show for unknown reasons on Day 6.

For the first time in Big Brother history, 16 HouseGuests entered the House to compete for the grand prize. This is the first time since Big Brother 5 that there has been an increase in the number of HouseGuests over the previous season.

A gameplay twist this season is that each HouseGuest is paired with a soulmate and the pairs will share Head of Household and Power of Veto wins and be evicted together.

Adam

Adam Jasinski (born April 30, 1978) is a public relations manager from Delray Beach, Florida. Adam has a master's degree in fashion design/marketing and has attended Camden County College in New Jersey, Parson's School of Design in New York and Fashion Art Italy in Italy. His "soulmate" is Sheila.

Alex

Alex Coladonato (born August 16, 1983) is the owner of E-Squared Productions, a DJ company from Staten Island, New York. Alex has an older brother, Anthony, and was raised by his mother and grandmother. His father worked for Cantor Fitzgerald and was killed in World Trade Center 2 on 9/11. Alex has dedicated his life to making his father proud. He also has various bachelor's degree in business, marketing and advertising and recently is working on his first master's degree in childhood education at St. John's University. His "soulmate" is Amanda.

Allison

Allison Nichols (born July 24, 1979) is a pharmaceutical sales representative from Boston, Massachusetts. She also has a bachelor of arts/psychology degree from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. In the spring of 2002 she spent a semester at sea. Allison is a reformed gambling addict. Her "soulmate" is Ryan.

Amanda

Amanda Hansen (born August 17, 1984) is a paralegal from Fridley, Minnesota. She attended Winona State University in Winona, Minnesota and has a bachelor's degree in paralegal studies/political science.Her "soulmate" is Alex.

Chelsia

Chelsia Hart (born November 9, 1986) is a college student from Cedar Falls, Iowa. She is currently attending the University of Northern Iowa and is a German major. She has lived in Germany and this September she will begin studying in Austria for a year. Her "soulmate" is James.

Jacob

Jacob Heald (born May 15, 1984) is an electrician from Dallas, Georgia. Jacob is an ex-Marine and has lived all over the world. He has attended elementary school in San Diego, California and Okinawa, Japan prior to moving to Maryland, then Jacksonville, North Carolina. He was Sharon's ex-boyfriend, and her "soulmate" in the Big Brother House. Jacob and Sharon were the first pair to be evicted from the house, on Day 3.

James

James Zinkand (born November 21, 1986) is a high school graduate originally from Sarasota, Florida and is currently biking around the world with no money. He has also dressed mannequins for a living while living in Buenos Aires. James' "soulmate" for the show is Chelsia.

Jen

Jen Diturno (born October 18, 1981) is a bartender from Columbus, Ohio. She has attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio where she received her bachelor's degree in education. She is also certified in Special Education K-12 and was a special education teacher after she graduated from Bowling Green State University. She is Ryan's girlfriend, but also Parker's "soulmate" for the duration of the show.

Joshuah

Joshuah Welch (born June 3, 1982) is an advertising media buyer from Dallas, Texas. Joshuah has a bachelor's degree in advertising, with a business minor, from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a bisexual and came out to his family when he was 18 years old. His "soulmate" for the show was originally Neil. When Neil left the show on Day 6, Joshuah was given the option to replace Neil with either the formerly evicted Jacob or Sharon, and he chose Sharon.

Matt

Matt McDonald (born April 7, 1984) is a roofing foreman from Charlestown, Massachusetts. He is an only child and is extremely close with his mother. He lost his father when he was 9 years old. His "soulmate" is Natalie, who performed oral sex on him in the House.

Natalie

Natalie Cunial (born November 7, 1979) is a bikini barista from Salem, Oregon. As a kid she moved around a lot, during high school she lived in Alameda, California, Salem, Oregon and Mililani, Hawaii. She attended Chemeketa Community College in Salem as well as the Art Institute of Las Vegas in Nevada. She is very religious and is proud of her figure and enters bikini contests. She previously won the title of Miss Hawaiian Tropic Oregon.[31] Early in the morning of February 15, 2008, she performed oral sex on her "soulmate", Matt McDonald.

Neil

Neil Garcia (born September 16, 1978) is a realtor from Los Angeles, California. He has studied criminology, criminal justice, political science and business management in college but did not earn a degree. He is a real estate agent and is openly gay. His "soulmate" for the show was Joshuah. He left the show for unknown reasons on Day 6, and was replaced by the previously evicted Sharon, when Joshuah was given the choice to bring back either Sharon or Jacob as Neil's replacement.

Parker

Parker Somerville (born April 6, 1981) is a paparazzo from Northridge, California. He attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale where he received a bachelor's degree in radio and television. Parker works as a member of the paparazzi for TMZ and served in the Air Force from 1999-2002 and received a general discharge.His "soulmate" for the duration of the show is Jen and with her he became a part of the first "power couple" in Big Brother US history.

Ryan

Ryan Quicksall (born September 16, 1980) is a college student from Columbus, Ohio. Ryan currently attends Ohio State University and is majoring in economics and business. Ryan's "soulmate" is Allison, but he has been dating fellow HouseGuest Jen since before entering the House.

Sharon

Sharon Obermueller (born June 24, 1984) is a realtor from Olathe, Kansas. She attended Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas and received an associate's degree. She is currently working as a realtor and restaurant hostess. She is Jacob's ex-girlfriend and was his "soulmate" until they were the first HouseGuests evicted from the House on Day 3. When Neil left the show on Day 6, Joshuah was given the choice to bring back either Sharon or Jacob as Neil's replacement. He chose Sharon, and she immediately replaced Neil as Joshuah's "soulmate".

Sheila

Sheila Kennedy (born April 12, 1962) is a former model from Reseda, California. She has a 16 year old son named Mikhail and a dog named Kitty. Her soulmate is Adam.
