New York Festivals (NYF) 2008 International TV Broadcasting Awards
held on February 1 at the Tribeca Rooftop in lower Manhattan.
Of these six medals, five are from GMA Network Inc. and one from ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.
The lone Gold World Medal winner from the Philippines is the "Batang Kalakal" episode of
GMA-7's Reporter's Notebook in the Human Interest category. The public affairs program is hosted by Maki Pulido and Jiggy Manicad.
Two episodes of the GMA-7 documentary show I-Witness, on the other hand, won Silver Medals: Sandra Aguinaldo's "Iskul Ko No.1" in Social Issues/Current Events category and Howie Severino's "Huling Hala Bira" in Community Portraits category.
ABS-CBN's "Halalan" was also awarded a Silver Medal in News Promo category.
Another Reporter's Notebook episode, Jun Veneracion's "Engkuwentro," went home with a Bronze Medal in the On-Going Story Coverage.
Arnold Clavio's Emergency received a special Bronze Medal from the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) for its "Mga Batang Nagsusunog" episode.
Lastly, Kapuso director Louie Ignacio won a Gold Medal for his music video "Power To Unite," which was used for the National Bible Quiz Inc.
GMA-7 also received finalist certificates for the following programs: Art Angel (Educational/Instructional Elementary); Emergency (Social Issues/Current Events); Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (Social Issues/Current Events); Tok! Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok (Variety); two other episodes of I-Witness; and the election plug "Panata" (News Promo).
ABS-CBN, meanwhile, got finalist certificates for 9/11: The Philippine Connection for Best News Documentary/Special, XXX for Best Public Affairs Program, and the "Rehas" episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya for Best Drama.
The Kapuso network's sister station, QTV-11, was also given finalist certificates for At Your Service, Star Power for Community Service Program, Sana'y Muling Magkapiling for Social Issues/Current Events, and Sa Pulso for Magazine Format.
USA's ESPN was named Broadcaster of the Year for winning five Gold, five Silver, three Bronze and ten finalist certificates, in addition to their prestigious Grand Award.
According to the official website of NYF, newyorkfestivals.com, "The 2008 TV Broadcasting Awards received entries from 32 countries. This international competition has recognized the world's most outstanding news, documentary, information and entertainment programming, as well as the best music videos, infomercials, promotion spots, openings and IDs for 48 years.
"Each entry was screened by NYF judging panels composed from industry experts including producers, directors, writers and other media professionals in the New York area."
