Miss Universe Dayana Mendoza - Maxim Magazine September 2008

At the age of 23, Dayana Mendoza has reigned as Miss Venezuela & Miss Universe and traveled the world while fulfilling her duties as the official hottest woman in all of existence. Now the sultry South American’s reign is coming to an end, and she’s ready to do something her hectic schedule hasn’t allowed her to do in a year. Here are some of the excerpt of her interview in Maxim Magazine:

What was the reaction like in Venezuela when you won?
Venezuela went 12 years not having a Miss Universe. They did, like, parades. In South America we’re big fanatics of pageants. My parents told me that when I won, cars were going through the streets honking like after a soccer match.

And when you got home, were people still going crazy?
I saw all these Venezuelans with the little flags, and they were crying, and I was kind of crying as well. I really enjoyed how much happiness I could bring to so many people by winning. And I think we needed it in my country.

Pick up the September 2008 issue of Maxim Magazine on newsstands for more of Dayana Mendoza & be sure to watch Dayana Mendoza crown this year's champion when the Miss Universe Pageant is broadcast live, Sunday August 23 on NBC and Telemundo & locally by ABS-CBN & Studio 23.

First Miss Universe Is From The Philippines

As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of 'first man landing on the moon' today, we also celebrate the first ever Miss Universe, Ms. Gloria Diaz from the Philippines, she won the same year Apollo 11 landed on the moon.

Her question is: If the man on the moon should come down to Earth and visit your hometown, what would you do to entertain him? And the rest is history. Miss Finland finish first runner-up, followed by Miss Australia Joanne Barrett, second runner-up; Miss Israel Chava Levy, 3rd runner-up; & Miss Japan Kikuyo Ohsuka, 4th runner-up.

Ylmaz Bektas Has a New Ruffa Gutierrez ?

A Turkish national named Kenan sent me this e-mail: “Turkish paparazzi spotted Ylmaz Bektas with Miss Universe ’06 Zuleyka Mendoza. From Puerto Rico, he [arranged] a private flight for her to come to Turkey.

“Looks like Ylmaz really has a penchant for beauty queens. It remains to be seen if things will turn ugly for him and his new beauty just like in the recent past. Rancor encore? Heaven forbid!

“After she arrived at the Ataturk Airport in the private plane, they chose to check in at the Hotel Les Ottomans King Suit, which is famous [among] the jet society. Since the hotel doesn’t have a heliport, they went to the Ciragan Palace first via helicopter. Then they boarded a black Mercedes car with two guards in tow.

“After resting in the hotel for a few hours, they went to the famous Zuma Restaurant. They didn’t want to be caught by the paparazzi so they came to the restaurant separately.”
