Gabby Concepcion is Back!

Almost a month after showbiz royalty KC Concepcion exclusively told abs-cbnnews.com about a month-long birthday offering for her fans, she confirmed that she will have a television drama special entitled "I AM KC" in April.
"Generally mayroon kaming hiningi from ABS-CBN kung pwede mag-birthday offering, kasi sayang naman kung wala kaming offering sa audience, sa tao kasi birthday ko April 27, so ang ginawa ng ABS-CBN binigyan kami ng apat na iba-ibang genre for Saturday drama. So each weekend for four consecutive weeks starting March 29 may isang drama or comedy or fantasy na magaganap," Concepcion told the weekly entertainment show "The Buzz."
KC, Maria Kristina Cassandra Concepcion in real life, is the daughter of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and former actor Gabby Concepcion.
During her first taping day, Concepcion shared some details of the special's pilot episode.
"Ang title niya Binibini, isang babaeng parang palengkera na laging sumasali sa mga beauty contest, beauty pageant nandoon ang nanay niya. May mga surprises sa buhay nila na hindi nila ini-expect at doon mangyayari iyong drama na nandoon sa comedy," she said.
To make her drama series more special, Concepcion will be joined by comedienne Ai-Ai delas Alas for the first episode, which will be directed by Wenn Deremas.
"Natutuwa nga ako kasi kasama namin dito si Ms. Ai-Ai, who is my super idol kasi super favorite ko ang movies niya especially with Direct Wenn. So iyong makasama ko si Direct Wenn at si Ms. Ai air tapos nanay ko pa sobra, first time ko ding mag-comedy kasi," Concepcion said.
In "I AM KC", the new actress will be working with different actors since the episodes will be of different genres.
"Sa comedy si Ms. Ai-Ai, then may fantasy since pambata si [Makisig Morales] ang kasama namin (pero) hindi ko panama-meet. May isang musical kasama namin si Vhong Navarro. Iyong sa light romance hindi pa confirmed at naghahanap pa ng cast for that," she revealed.
Concepcion said her inspiration to do the project is her love of her fans and supporters.
"Marami akong natutunanan at sila talaga ang nagbibigay sa akin ng inspiration, ng energy para gawin lahat ito. Dahil kung wala din pong nanonood eh ano pa ang work namin so sila din po ang reason kung bakit ko naisip at napagdesisyunan kong pumasok talaga kasi kung wala, sila walang sense ang trabaho ko."
In the interview with "The Buzz", KC Concepcion also spoke on the controversy regarding her decision to wear a bikini and pose for the summer campaign of a clothing line she endorses.
"Basta inisip ko na lang okey, I am in my 20s, kung di ko gawin ang bikini shoots ngayon kailan pa at saka hindi ko talaga inisip na magagawa ko ang shoots na iyon. Anyway nasa beach naman kami and any woman should be proud of her body, I'm very happy na nagawa ko na iyon," she said.
But on matters of the heart, KC Concepcion chose to keep mum.
When asked about rumors that actor Richard Gutierrez is wooing her, she replied, "No comment, no comment talaga. Basta kung ano na lang ang sinabi niya doon sa ibang shows, iyon na lang po iyon. Kasi pareho kaming busy talaga and although, sobrang bait niya talaga at hindi siya papayag na malimutan siya. Iyon na lang ang masasabi ko kung ikaw iyong babaeng iyon talagang hindi mo makakalimutan sinisiguro niya iyon kahit wala siya dito."
Aside from her acting stints, Concepcion will also be busy with her commitments as UN ambassador, which includes visits to Mindanao.
Concepcion was appointed by the United Nations as the World Food Programme Ambassador in the country.

KC Concepcion proved that she has the makings of a great dramatic actress in her foray as a TV actress. Her "Mansyon" episode in Maalaala Mo Kaya posted a rating 0f 17.3 percent.
Despite the favorable reviews that she got for her debut as a TV actress, KC Concepcion's "Mansyon" episode in Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) did not create much buzz from the TV audience to push it to the top. The February 15 episode of MMK only managed to take the 10th spot among the primetime programs with its 17.3 percent rating. Although the said figure is still high compared to the average ratings of previous MMK episodes considering its late timeslot.
As expected, Marimar once again topped the primetime race last Friday by virtue of its 46 percent rating; followed by Robin Padilla's Joaquin Bordado with 39.3 percent and Richard Gutierrez's Kamandag with 39.2 percent.
Two other GMA-7 shows, 24 Oras and Coffee Prince, occupied the fourth and fifth slots.
This was the same scenario last night, February 18, with the five Kapuso shows occupying the same slots.
However, there were some movements in the sixth to tenth slots.
ABS-CBN's primetime newscast TV Patrol World took the No. 6 spot last Friday but it dropped to No. 8 last night. Kung Fu Kids managed to remain steady at No. 7 Friday and Monday. Lobo occupied the No. 8 position Friday but it moved to No. 6 Monday. Palos was only No. 11 last Friday but returned to the winning circle Monday at No. 9.
GMA-7's gag show Bubble Gang was at No. 9 Friday and Kung Ako Ikaw grabbed the last spot Monday.
Daytime viewing was once again ruled by Eat Bulaga! taking the top position Friday, Saturday, and Monday.
Interestingly, GMA-7's Flash Report last Sunday, February 17, was the No. 1 daytime program with 19 percent; followed by the rerun of Happily Ever After in Kapuso Sine Special with 15.9 percent.
Showbiz Central grabbed the third spot with 15.8 percent while musical variety shows SOP and ASAP '08 took the fourth and fifth slots, respectively.

ABS-CBN's
Maalaala Mo Kaya, which features tear-jerking episodes of real-life stories, showed a familiar but fresh face in its episode "Mansyon" last night, February 15.
The ABS-CBN drama anthology show starred KC Concepcion, the daughter of Mega star Sharon Cuneta and ‘80s heartthrob Gabby Concepcion. KC topbilled the story where a highly dependent person gets a rude awakening.
The February 15 episode focuses on the worry free and happy-go-lucky life of a teenager. Unlike the lead character,
KC is an independent individual who can pretty much live by her own as proven by her stay in Paris, France, to complete her studies. For someone with
theater experience, I think there was little or no pressure on KC's part to finally act on the small screen.
RICHES TO RAGS STORY. "Mansyon" is story based on the account of a 19-year old kolehiyala living the good life with her upper class family. Darlene, as KC's character is called, had everything she could ask for—materially speaking, of course. The first few minutes portrayed Darlene as a dependent but normal I-want-it-all kind of girl. Like her younger brother Dennis, Darlene is pampered and often received wonderful gifts from their father Darwin (played by Ricky Davao) who has just arrived from abroad. Darlene's mother (played by Agot Isidro) is strong but loving mother who, at very beginning of story, tries to teach Darlene the value of responsibility. Of course, any well-to-do teenager would shrug off these advices, preferring to make the most out of life—and young love.
In comes Chris (played by Derek Ramsay), Darlene's boyfriend with whom she has a secret relationship for some time already. The first scene between Chris and Darlene's display of affection for each other looked sweet enough to make someone squirm (no offense meant for couples who still go for the mushy break-and-makeup thing.) However, the relationship between two of them proves to be a key element to the story as viewers will soon to find out.
Petty lies, worry, and driving can make a very bad mix as a seemingly romantic date between Chris and Darlene ended in tragedy. The family's unica hija discovers that her parents became involved in a car accident (because they were worried for her safety). The crushing revelation of her father being dead and her paralyzed mom changed the life of Darlene forever. Faced with debts and emotional breakdowns, Darlene slowly opens her eyes to independence as she carries the burden she herself has caused.
In time, Darlene matures into an independent woman who succeeds in making ends meet. Although they lose their spacious house, Darlene builds a new home-a home within the family.
THEATRICAL INFLUENCES. It looks like that KC has brought her all experience from theater in this episode of MMK as she clearly gave her 100% in all aspects. However, her way of acting might have made some people think that the episode would be more interesting if it were set as a stage play. The entrance, exit, and bodily movements of KC really differentiated her from her co-stars. Nonetheless, her portrayal as a carefree girl-turned-independent head of family is as seamless as it can get. When it comes to those "emotional moments," KC is automatic. By automatic, it means that it takes no effort for her to feel the moment, making it more believable and appreciated whether it is crying or laughing.
Her onscreen chemistry with Derek was fairly measured, making their scenes together well-executed and properly proportioned to the story's situation. Derek, for his part, looked well with KC and there is a possibility that future projects between the two will prove beneficial.
KC's scenes with Agot Isidro dominated the story and the exchange between the two of them in the later parts was very convincing. Agot's depression, mixed with KC's frustration and determination, was so passionate that some people might be tempted to called out, "Bumangon ka na kasi! Don't give up!" while others might resort to measuring the amount of tears shed during their confrontations.
For me, a tear-jerking scene in this story was the part when the family finally moves to a smaller house. KC, who felt bad about leaving the original house, comments that they have to make do with the existing one. Agot replies with, "It's just a house, but you've kept the family together."
Overall, KC has done an exceptional performance in this MMK episode. Considering that this is her first TV appearance, one can expect more surprises from this new face on Philippine TV.

The minute Jerry Sineneng was told that he would be directing KC Concepcion for a special episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya, the respected director quickly went into
panic mode.
"Siyempre kabang-kaba ako kasi KC Concepcion na ‘yan, anak ni Ms. Sharon Cuneta, ni Mr. Gabby Concepcion," said Direk Jerry to the members of the press yesterday, February 11, in a press conference held at the 9501 restaurant in ABS-CBN, Quezon City.
Beyond KC's intimidating background, Direk Jerry—who is a veteran when it comes to his craft as well as in dealing with various kinds of showbiz character—was understandably more concerned about certain things common among showbiz personalities.
"I don't know her personally," he said bluntly, "baka may attitude, suplada ba ‘yan?"
But those questions turned out to be unfounded right from their first meeting and throughout the shooting.
"Napakabait. It's an honor for me to work with KC. It's a pleasure, it's a pleasure. She's very professional, sobra po ‘yong commitment t'saka yong passion. Wala akong reklamo sa batang ‘to. Kahit ilagay mo diyan or naka-upo lang siya sa isang sulok ok na siya wala siyang ere wala siyang ‘I want a room' ‘I'm so tired' wala siyang ganoon. Wala talagang ganoon, I swear, wala talaga siyang demands or anything," he observed animatedly.
TAKING THE PLUNGE. For her first television drama appearance, KC turned out to be a revelation—prompting ABS-CBN executives to remark that for an upstart, she definitely exceeded all expectations.
For the public, especially her fans, the anticipation to see KC on screen was worth the wait. Playing coy, or perhaps just being plain choosy, KC has always been swamped with TV and movie offers, but she always, politely, turned them down.
"I follow my instinct," said KC when asked on her considerations in choosing projects. "Hindi ko naman kasi po pinaplano talaga, e. Hindi po siya calculated talaga. Siguro blessing na lang din po that there are people around me who wants to support and who are inspired to work on certain project that will inspire certain people."
Of all the scripts submitted to the 22-year old stunner, one particularly stood up and stirred her interest. When the people behind Maalaala Mo Kaya learned that KC wanted to launch her acting career via the award-winning drama anthology program, their reaction was one of disbelief followed by exhilaration.
"KC is one of the most sought-after, not to mention multi-talented personalities in the industry today," beamed MMK production manager, Ginny Ocampo. "Kaya naman we're very happy na kami ang napili niya sa una niyang paglabas bilang isang aktres."
A WELL OF EMOTIONS. In the February 15 episode of MMK, KC plays the character of a rich young girl named Darlene. Her good fortune, however, changes drastically when her parents meet an accident. Darlene's mom [Agot Isidro] luckily survived but not her doting father [Ricky Davao].
Because of the tragedy, and with her father being the sole provider, Darlene and her family's life took a downturn. While her mother completely gave up on life, preferring instead to stay in the hospital bed, Darlene assumed responsibility and became the breadwinner; discovering the joys and at the same time the pains of a simple-yet-difficult life she never thought she'd experience.
When the trailer of the episode was played before the official presscon, everyone inside the room was awestruck with KC's depth and natural sensitivity as an actress. For someone who is so sheltered in real life and still feeling her way in front of the camera, KC has all the potential to be a serious actress like her parents.
A workshop, revealed KC, was instrumental in bringing out the actress in her. But it was also helpful in bringing out most of her pent up emotions. KC reasoned: "You really have to scratch the surface to know who you are before you take a role... magpakatotoo ka dapat as a person bago mo ma-play yung mga ganyang role, ng buhay ng ibang tao, istorya ng ibang tao."
KC dedicates MMK's episode to her mom, Sharon Cuneta. "I hope I make her proud," she humbly enthused with a wishful tone.
Based on the trailer alone, she most definitely will.
Watch KC Concepcion's TV acting debut this Friday, February 15, in a special post-Valentine episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya right after Maging Sino Ka Man on ABS-CBN.

Can a drop-dead gorgeous guy like Richard Gutierrez be “loveless” in the Day of Hearts? Unbelievable but true.
Asked how he’s spending Valentine’s Day, he sighed.
“I don’t know yet. I’ll probably take a tour of the theaters where my movie is showing,” he said, referring to GMA Films and Regal Entertainment’s My Bestfriend’s Girlfriend in which he has as first-time co-star Marian Rivera, the Sensational Star of 2007 (thanks to the phenomenal Marimar which has been ruling the ratings with
a high of 50 percent, leaving its competitors catching for breath miles and miles away).
For the time being but surely not for long, Richard is “carefree,” just like Evo, the rich guy he plays in My Bestfriend’s Girlfriend (directed by Mark Reyes whose last work was the Bong Revilla starrer Resiklo), whose elusive heart is caught by Grace (played by Marian), a poor, working student who moonlights as a waitress at a bar and does other odd jobs to pay the bills. Evo meets Grace at a stag party where she pops out of a cake. As Marimar would say, “Awwww!!!”
Asked further if he can find a date between now and D-Day, which is just four days away, Richard’s face lit up.
“Who knows. Madali lang ‘yon.”
Could KC Concepcion be “it” (after all, rumor-mongers are trying to match them)?
“But she might also be busy.”
Told that KC has broken up with TV director Lino Cayetano (said to have gone back to Bianca Gonzales), Richard sounded incredulous.
“Is it true?”
Well, KC was quoted in the tabs as saying, “I’m single and happy,” adding in jest, “and available.”
Breaking into a little laugh, Richard said, “I’m also single and happy.”
But didn’t he say that he has “someone” when his twin brother Raymond asked him in the spoof “Don’t Lie To Me” (a segment from Raymond’s GMA Sunday talk show Showbiz Central) last week during their 24th birthday (the twins are Aquarians) dinner-show (shown over last weekend as a TV special)?
“Raymond asked me if I was dating,” Richard set the record straight, “and I said, “‘Of course, I’m dating. I’m single’.”
And who is he dating?
“Secret!”
Wild guess: Jewel Mische, a KC-lookalike who is one of his leading ladies on Kamandag, the GMA fantasy-adventure series.
“Jewel is one of the nicest girls I know, but...”
During his vacation last year, Richard dropped by Paris and connected with KC who was then there finishing her studies.
“Yes, KC showed me around...to the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum (where parts of the movie Da Vinci Code were shot) and the grave of Jim Morrison. We were in a group. We ended the day with a hearty meal at a nice restaurant.”
So, he really doesn’t have any special girl to say “I love you” or send flowers to on Valentine’s Day?
“So far? None.”
Teased that a long-distance call to London won’t cost much, Richard got the message. His rumored non-showbiz girlfriend, Georgina Wilson (niece of Gloria Diaz), is in London having her OJT (on-the-job training) and she’ll go back to Australia to resume her classes.
Isn’t he going to call, maybe even just to greet her a Happy Valentine?
“Well, I might. It’s her birthday on Feb. 12. I just hope that she will answer the phone if I call.” (According to the grapevine, Richard has been calling and/or texting Georgina since they broke up — or was it just a “cooling off?” — but Georgina hasn’t been responding. They bumped into each other at The Embassy last December when Georgina came home for the holidays but they didn’t get to have a heart-to-heart talk.) “I think she needs some more time before she decides to talk to me.”
If not (anymore Georgina) and not (yet) KC, what about Marian Rivera (who hasn’t confirmed reports that she has a non-showbiz boyfriend, a basketball player)?
“In the short time that I know her, I could see that she is a real person, totoong-tao siya. What you see is what you get. She’s fun to be with.”
In My Bestfriend’s Girlfriend, Richard and Marian have no less than three kissing scenes, each “perfected” only after several takes.
Did he deliberately “manipulate” it?
“No,” laughed Richard. “Sinadya ni direk.”
* * *
Funfare is ending this “Valentine-less” piece on Richard by asking him some “romantic” questions, to wit:
Would you rather be the pursuer or the pursued?
“I want to be the predator, not the prey.”
What type of a girl would you pursue?
“The type who is not aggressive.”
How do you deal with “aggressive” girls?
“With my back against the wall, I guess I wouldn’t have any choice but...”
Would you give in?
“It depends on the situation and who the girl is. If she’s my type, well...”
Do good-looking guys like you also get broken-hearted?
“Oo naman. We are just like any other guys.”
How many times have you been broken-hearted?
“A few times.”
Including by the one who’s in London?
“A, eh, ano ‘yon? He he he he he!”
How do you cope with a broken heart? Do you get drunk, do you sulk, do you bang your head on the wall?
“It depends. I travel. Seeing foreign places helps ease the pain a lot.”
What the kinkiest thing that you’ve ever done?
“I’d rather not mention it. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!”
Oh, unmentionable?
“Yes, unmentionable. Censored!”
What puts you in a romantic mood?
“Soft music, wine, dim lights, and a nice and sexy conversation. That should lead to something exciting.”
What’s the most memorable date have you ever had so far?
“Those spent abroad.”
Like the one in Paris?
(Reluctantly) “Well, yes...”
What’s the most expensive gift that you’ve given a girl so far?
“Hmmmm. You know, magastos ako sa girls, eh. I splurge on them.”
What do you give them?
“Oh, whatever they ask for. I buy them what they want.”
Given a chance, name three girls you would like to court. Hypothetically speaking, of course.
“KC, definitely! She’s strong-willed and interesting; I am intrigued by women who are strong-willed. KC would be nice. Chelsea Clinton (daughter of former US Pres. Bill Clinton and Presidentiable Hilary Clinton). And, yes, Marian Rivera. She’s also strong-willed and very Pinay.”
